Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration (Phd B.A)

Rationale

The Management University of Africa endeavors to provide innovative leadership and management solutions to National, Regional and International Organizations. This will be provided in an environment that develops transformational leadership and excellent management practices in an African context.

This programme aims at developing scholars who have an interest in teaching and research in order to increase new knowledge that will be beneficial to organizations globally and to develop ethical, self-driven and intellectual business leaders and practitioners in strategy, leadership and management.

The Management University of Africa Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration is intended to provide students with research training in a manner that fosters the development of independent research skills in students. These skills include the capacity to formulate a significant research problem, to develop mastery of appropriate conceptual and methodological skills, and to relate the research topic to a broader framework of knowledge in business administration. The doctoral thesis provides evidence of a contribution to knowledge with a level of originality consistent with three (3) to seven (7) years of full-time study and research training. It also demonstrates a student’s capacity for critical analysis and that he or she is capable of pursuing pragmatic research.

Philosophy of the Programme

The Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration programme is an interdisciplinary programme designed for those who have advanced to more complex leadership positions. It emphasizes the study of research methodology, statistics, management, entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, communication and strategy. The programme will enable the student to develop into an extremely sophisticated leader ready to assume executive level responsibility and strategic visioning roles for innovation and transformation within and outside Africa.

Justification of the Need for the Programme

In the current competitive environment, organizations must remain extremely focused on achievement of the corporate goals. This requires a sustained competitive advantage. A sustained competitive advantage is an advantage that can exist for a long time. This can be achieved through having high quality human resources in an organization. This programme seeks to provide competent, high quality managers and business leaders who can successfully manage the organizations and contribute to new knowledge.
A research undertaken has revealed several gaps that needed to be filled by the Doctor of Philosophy in Management and Leadership programme. Some of the stakeholders involved in the research were faculty drawn from the industry, potential employers and MUA students
