Great learning experience as students visit Standard Group Newsroom
It was an experience of a lifetime when Management University of Africa (MUA) students visited the magnificent Standard Group headquarters in Nairobi on July 12, 2024.
During the two-hour visit, the 30 students were taken through a comprehensive tour of Standard Group
converged newsroom. For the students, the highlight was connecting with celebrated KTN news anchor Eric Lattif, award-winning Radio Maisha presenters Mwende Macharia and Ann Njogu of Staarabika show.
Ronald Gitonga a BED Arts student, who is the inventor of MUA TV, and one of the students on the tour, shares his experience which captures the moment: “During our visit to The Standard Media Group, one of the
largest media groups in Kenya, we had the incredible opportunity to gain a close insight into the world of media.
Our visit included a tour of KTN studios, where we witnessed the high-tech equipment and the behind-the- scenes production process of television broadcasting. We also had the privilege of meeting renowned Radio Maisha presenters such as Mwende Macharia, Ann Njogu and DJ Young, which was an inspiring experience for those passionate about radio journalism.
In addition, we visited Vybes Radio and Spice FM, where we observed the dynamic and fast-paced environment of radio broadcasting. The visit provided a unique chance to witness the work that goes into producing engaging and informative content for the listeners. Furthermore, our visit to the print media division allowed us to witness the production process of The Standard newspaper, from the writing and editing stages to the final printing.
The visit to the Standard Group newsrooms was not only educative but also informative and entertaining, particularly for those with a passion for the media industry. We were able to gain valuable insights into the various aspects of media, from television to radio and print.
The experience highlighted the importance of accurate and reliable news reporting, as well as the creativity and innovation required to engage audiences across different platforms.” It was a truly memorable and eye-opening experience that has left a lasting impression on all those who aspire to pursue a career in media.
